Will Storr on Selfie

Monday, 12 June 2017

We are supposed to be slim, prosperous, happy, extroverted and popular. This is our culture’s image of the perfect self. We see this person everywhere: in advertising, in the press, all over social media. We’re told that to be this person you just have to follow your dreams, that our potential is limitless, that we are the source of our own success. But is this really true?

Will Storr is a journalist and novelist who has written for the Guardian, Sunday Times, Observer, Esquire, New Yorker and more. In Selfie, Will explores the concept of the self, how and why we became so self-obsessed, and the danger this poses in modern society.

Here, Will talks about the premise of the book, the flawed concept of the perfect body, and the myth of self-esteem.

Selfie: How We Became So Self-Obsessed and What It's Doing to Us by Will Storr is out now in Hardback and Audiobook.
