One evening early in October, Picador left the office and went along to a screening of Rust and Bone, a film adaptation of Craig Davidson's collection of short stories. We can promise that Jaqcues Audiard, acclaimed director of A Prophet, has made a truly wonderful film - it's provocative, moving, and never let's you relax. It recently won Best Film at the BFI London Film Festival 2012.
It stars Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose, Inception) as Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts, Bullhead) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. As their lives twist and turn, they come to rely on each other more and more to keep afloat and stay sane.
2012 has been a bumper year for film adaptations of Picador's books. Don DeLillo's Cosmopoliswas adapted by David Cronenberg and stars Robert Pattinson. Matthew Quick's novel The Silver Linings Playbooksees Bradley Cooper play the lead, with Robert DeNiro as his dad.
