The Family Fang is
a novel like no other. That’s partly because the family Fang is a family like
no other. They create art: performance art, provocations, interventions – call
it what you like. And plenty of people certainly don’t think it’s ‘Art’.
But although the madcap performances of the family are
great, The Family Fang is really a
novel about parents and children; it’s about being embarrassed and about trying
to escape; and about forever being drawn back into the fold. The novel also
inspires debate. What is more important: life or art; family or creativity?
And the writing: wow!
Imagine Jonathan Franzen’s The
Corrections mashed-up with Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums and you might get somewhere near to what Kevin
has done. This book, quite simply, is very funny. Great writing rarely is, but
Kevin Wilson is the exception: a fresh, clever, warm-hearted and totally
original voice.
You can’t wait to read it, right? Well, what are
you waiting for? You want somebody to tell you that it’s good, somebody you can
trust? Oh! Ok then, how about these guys:
